Apr 21, 2020 · In Path of Exile, there are no skills assigned to the class you choose. Therefore, Grinding Gear Games created a skill gem system when you slot these Active Skill Gems into your weapons or armor, you will gain access to a new ability. If you're a beginner in the Path of Exile, these gems may be confusing!

In Path of Exile, many items contain colored gem sockets. Skill gems of the matching color may be placed into these sockets to immediately gain access to that skill. Gems can be removed from sockets at any time with no penalty. The size and type of item will influence how many sockets it can hold. I was trying to change a slot color from Blue to Red. I know its all random but I used 11 gems on an item trying to get a Red socket.. all it did was change from blue to green 11 times. Now thats a bit stupid I think.. not to mention a waste of gems. wouldnt it be a better idea to have a Red gem for a Red socket Each gem level, the exile must have both the attribute corresponding to gem colour and a character level high enough to meet its increased requirements. If a gem gains enough experience to level up, but the exile currently does not meet the requirements, the level–up icon will appear greyed out and not be useable until the requirements are met. Linked slots can be used to apply support gems to active gems. E.g. you have heavy strike in one slot and in a linked slot you have a melee splash gem. Your heavy strike will now be a splash-attack. With more linked slots you'll be able to get even more support gems onto the same skill gem, or support multiple gems with few support gems. Sockets are more likely to roll a colour corresponding to the attributes of the equipment being altered. The higher the attribute requirements, the more likely it is to roll the relevant color: red sockets for Strength, green sockets for Dexterity, and blue sockets for Intelligence. Beside Descent of Champion races, which give you two white socket items, the Tabula Rasa is the only item in the game with white sockets. You can put any color gem into a white socket.

Apr 21, 2020 The gem can be put in any socket, no matter the color. And yes, if you want to use it you have to put it under skill slot (if you already use all of them, then just replace one of the skill with teleport when you'll need to use it and bring back the skill to that slot once you're done teleporting).
